PROVO, Utah – Competing in their second race of the season, the Weber State University men's and women's cross country teams each finished third on Saturday morning at the Autumn Classic, hosted by BYU at East Bay Golf Course.
Dallin Leatham led the men's effort during the four-mile race, finishing with a time of 19:48.9, which was good enough for a ninth-place overall finish.
Jacob Stone finished second for the Wildcats and 12th overall, while Jordan Cross finished 15th overall.
"It was a nice day for a cross country meet," Weber State men's coach Corbin Talley said. "The course was a bit sloppy because of the rain, but that made it fun. The guys fought hard against some very strong teams today.
"We're still learning a lot, and getting stronger. We still have a lot of work and a lot of season in front of us, but I feel like we're gaining momentum and seeing a lot of growth.
"I was pleased with the performances of "Shoeless" Joe Maloney and Cody Glad. They both dug deep and ran smart races. Joe lost his shoe partway through the race, and still finished strong as our No. 4. Cody did a great job leading our second group, and close with a tough final mile."
On the women's side, Summer Harper was the top Wildcat finisher with a time of 17:25.7 on the three-mile course. Candace Sharp was Weber State's second-place finisher (18th overall), followed by Paige Dilmore.
Weber State will be back in action on Sept. 29 when the Wildcats travel to South Bend, Indiana, to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational.
