Wildcats split second day in Oregon

3/10/2018 9:28:00 PM | Softball

Weber State softball split another double header Saturday first defeating Bryant 12-2 and then later fell 10-2 to Oregon.

Against Bryant, Weber State came out with a bang. In the top of the first inning the Bulldogs got one on base. Hunter Huser struck the next better out and the third batter up that inning hit right into a well executed double play by the Weber State defense.

The momentum from the strong defense gave way to some big power of the Wildcat bats. Things started off with Landi Hawker knocking a single and then stealing second base. McKinley Brinkerhoff got on from a Bulldog error and then Brinkerhoff stole second while Hawker stole home.

The Wildcats just kept things rolling after that. Molly Horne and Ashlyn Visser got back-to-back singles and Rae Gall got on with a walk. Bases loaded and Sadie Blacker jacked one over the left field fence for a grand slam.

The Wildcats were able to get two more across in the bottom of the first for a solid 8-0 lead.

In the top of the second inning Weber State pulled a quick three up three down and were back at the plate. Brinkerhoff started things off by getting on with a bunt. Rae Gall brought Brinkerhoff with a single. A single by Ali Belloc was able to score two more runs and WSU had an 11-0 lead.

One more run for the Wildcats in the bottom of four gave WSU the 12th run for the game. Bryant tried to bring things back with two across in the top of five but Weber State's hot start solidified the five inning win.

In the second game of the day, Weber State fell 10-2 to tournament host Oregon. The Ducks jumped out to a 10-0 lead after two complete innings of play. In the top of the fourth inning, Gall had an RBI and a Duck error gave WSU two runs.

WSU couldn't get any other runs across to keep the game alive and Oregon defeated Weber State 10-2.

Weber State is now 11-13 overall on the season and will take on Bryant one final time tomorrow before heading to Utah State, March 14.
