Weber State finishes Oregon Invite with 4-3 win

Weber State softball finished out the last day at the Oregon tournament by defeating Bryant 4-3.
"It was a very good weekend for us," said head coach Mary Kay Amicone. "We scored a lot of runs and overall pitched very well. The venue was great for us to play in and the compeititon really helped to prepare us for confernce play."
The Wildcats started out hot at the plate. Takesha Slatern started everything off with a single to shortstop. Landi Hawker followed by getting on base with a bad throw from the pitcher.
That error scored Slatern and left Hawker on second. Next, McKinley Brinkerhoff hit a single to third and then with runners on one and three, Brinkerhoff stop second.
Two runners were in scoring position, Ashlyn Visser singled to the pitcher for two RBIs.
In the top of the second inning, the Bulldogs were able to get two across and narrowed the score gap.
In the bottom of the third! Brinkerhoff got on with a single and then stole second to put her into scoring position. Visser came up with another single that brought Brinkerhoff home and gave WSU a 4-2 lead.
Weber State held the Bulldogs scoreless in the fourth and allowed one run in the fifth. Neither team scored in the final two innings and WSU came away with a 4-3 weekend.
Overall at the Oregon tournament the Wildcats pulled away with a 3-2 record that puts the overall season record at 12-13. Weber State will next take on Utah State, Wednesday, March 14 at 3:00 p.m. in Logan. After that the Wildcats will start Big Sky Conference play at Southern Utah.
