Weber State to start Big Sky play at SUU

LEADING OFF
• Weber State softball continues its 2018 season with the start of Big Sky Conference play with it's series against Southern Utah. WSU will have a double header Friday, March 23 and a single game Saturday, March 24.

ON DECK
• Weber State will have a single non-conference game March 27 at Utah State.
• WSU's first home games will be March 30-31 against Sacramento State.

WHAT'S GOOD?
• Weber State has 12-13 overall record to start the season.

WILDCAT BREAKDOWN
•  The Wildcats are currently 12-13 on the season are coming off a 4-3 win to Bryant and an overall winning tournament at Oregon with a 3-2 record.
•  Weber State is on a one game winning streak.
•  WSU is hitting .295 on the season and have a fielding percentage of .938.

•  Head Coach Mary Kay Amicone is in her fifth season leading the Wildcats and brought back one assistant, Kylee Street and added two this year in Mattie Snow and Kristin Delahoussaye.

VICIOUS VISSER
Ashlyn Visser currently leads Weber State in home runs. She's knocked out seven already this season. She hit four out at the LMU tournament and against Loyola Marymount hit two homers in one game. Her most recent was against Nevada.

BLACKER AND THE GRAND SLAM
Junior Sadie Blacker  stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the first inning. Bases were loaded. The Wildcats had two outs. Blacker comes through with a solid knock over the left field fence to give WSU a 6-0 lead. Wildcats ultimately won that game 12-2.

BOHLING STRIKES AGAIN
Senior Kirtlyn Bohling leads WSU in total strikeouts so far this year with 53. She has pitched a total of 61.1 innings, made 16 appearances and started in 10 different games. She has a 4-5 overall record so far this season. Bohling sits at No. 1 in the Big Sky for batters struck out looking with 25.

KNOW YOUR OPPONENT - SOUTHERN UTAH
•  SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 23rd meeting between Weber State and Southern Utah. WSU has a 12-10 lead in the series and currently on a six game winning streak. WSU is an even 4-4 while taking on the Thunderbirds in Cedar City and looking to pick up their third consecutive road win.

•  PREVIOUSLY AGAINST
The last time the two met up was in 2017 at the Big Sky Tournament. Weber State defeated SUU 1-0.   

•  ABOUT
The Thunderbirds currently have a 3-21 overall record. They are coming off 10-2 loss to BYU in five innings.  SUU is on a three game losing streak. The T-Brids average .234 at the plate. They have a 8.66 overall ERA and a .958 fielding percentage.

Southern Utah is led by Taylei Williams who has a .348 batting average on the season. Williams has played and started in all 24 of SUU's games. She has a .638 slug percentage on the year and has recorded 24 hits including six doubles, one triple and four homers off of 69 at bats. She also has a .351 on base percentage and is 5-7  on stolen bases.

Samantha Guile is leading the Thunderbirds from the circle. She has a 6.69 ERA on the year. She's pitched a total of 45 innings and has struck out 17 different batters. She currently has a 1-8 record.
