Weber State track hosts final tune-up meet

OGDEN - The Weber State men's and women's track and field teams held their final home meet of the season and the final meet before the Big Sky Championships as the Wildcats hosted the Weber State Twilight Meet Wednesday and Thursday at Stewart Stadium. 

In the tune-up meet the Wildcats came out on top in 12 events. 

The Wildcat women's team had several seasonal best performances, including two top 10 all-time marks.

Freshman Starlee Woodbury won the title in the 100 meter hurdles at 14.66 with freshman Kate Sorensen taking first in the 400 meter hurdles at 1:00.43. The Wildcats also posted a time of 47.11 in the 400 meter relay. 

Michaella Hintze won the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.93 and MarLee Mitchell was first in the 1,500 meters at 4:43.78.

In the field events, Eden Richards came out first in the high jump at 5-07. 

On Thursday, Woodbury won the title in the long jump with a career best mark of 19-10.25. That mark is a new WSU freshman record and is the second-best jump in Weber State history. It is also currently the second-best in the Big Sky. 

Terrell Womack finshed second in the hammer throw with a career best mark of 175-08. That mark improves her previous career best by more than six feet, and it ranks as the seventh best mark in school history. 

On the men's side, the Wildcats had three seasonal best performances and won five events. Joey Czellecz was first in the 110 meter hurdles at 15.10 with Ryan Carlson second at 15.26. Gordon King won the steeplechase at 10:21.24. WSU also won both relay evnents. 

In the field events, Tyler Johnson captured first place in the long jump Thursday with a seasonal best mark of 22-09.75.      


Up next
Weber State will now prepare for the Big Sky Championships, which will be held May 8-11 in Moscow, Idaho. The multi-events will be Tuesday and Wednesday, with the other events set for Thursday and Friday.
