Wildcats drop season opener at Utah State

LOGAN - Weber State dropped its season opener 89-34 at 17th-ranked Utah State Friday night at the Dee Glenn Smith Spectrum.Â
The Wildcats shot 22 percent from the field and committed 19 turnovers, which Utah State turned into 23 points. USU shot 54 percent from the field.Â
WSU jumped out to a 6-4 lead after back-to-back 3-pointers, but the Aggies responded with a 20-2 run over the next 11 minutes to take a 24-8 lead with less than six minutes to play in the first half.
The Aggies led 48-13 at halftime as WSU shot just 18 percent from the field in the first half and had 12 turnovers, which USU turned into 15 points.Â
Utah State started the second half on a 16-6 run over the first 7:47 and led by 45 points at 64-19.Â
WSU was 5 of 22 from 3-point range and 9 of 20 from the free throw line.Â
Weber State was led in scoring by sophomore Donatas Kupsas who scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.Â

The Wildcats return to the Dee Events Center for the home opener next Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. against the University of San Diego.Â
