Weber State University's men's tennis faced several marathon matches but ultimately fell 5-2 on the road at Montana.Â
Montana captured the doubles point after clinching wins in the No. 2 and 3 spots. Bo-Han Li and Paul Ohde played in the No. 2 spot and were merely edged out with a 7-5 finish. A clutch 7-5 finish from Montana's Shaffrey and Hallgren in the No. 3 gave the Grizz the 1-0 lead.Â
In singles action, Kris van Wyk gave WSU the first match point with a solid win over Canellopoulos, 6-4, 6-1.Â
Shortly after van Wyk's win, fellow Wildcat Ohde came away with Weber's second match point of the game in the No. 4 spot. Ohde had a three-set marathon match against Pudney, after a 1-1 set tie he pushed through and won the tiebreaker for the victory, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3). Â
The two remaining matches went into extra games but WSU couldn't capitalize at the end.Â
Werner had a tight three-set match and tied the match 1-1 after coming away with the tiebreaker in the second set. In the last set, Shaffrey had a strong finish to bring Montana to a 4-2 lead.Â
Junhao Ye faced two tiebreakers to round out WSU's efforts. Ye took the second set by winning the tiebreaker to tie it 1-1 going into the third set. Hallgren pulled away at the end by capturing the tiebreaker to push Montana to a 5-2 victory. Â
Weber State is now 4-10 overall on the season and an even 2-2 in conference play and will have a two-week break before taking on Southern Utah on March 24.Â
