Wildcats beat Vikings 81-71 in Big Sky Quarterfinals

BOISE, Idaho - A big second half pushed Weber State to an 81-71 win over Portland State in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Tournament Thursday afternoon at the CenturyLink Arena in Boise.
After a tie game at halftime, the Wildcats outscored the Vikings 47-37 in the second half to secure the win.
Weber State will take on No. 1 seed Montana in the semifinals of the tournament Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Boise.
The Wildcats led by eight late in the first half when Portland State closed the half on an 8-0 run to tie the game 34-34 at halftime. Weber State used a 13-0 run early in the second half and led by as many as 18 points and held on for the win. PSU was never closer than eight points the rest of the way.
The Wildcats shot 46 percent from the field and held the Vikings to 34 percent shooting, including 4 of 23 from 3-point range. Portland State outrebounded the Wildcats 52-34 and had 23 offensive rebounds which led to 25 second-chance points. But the Wildcats forced 18 PSU turnovers and had nine steals.
"I'm proud of our team and how they didn't flinch and kept competing," said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. "Our defense, especially early in the second half, was really solid and we adjusted really well against a tough team."
Jerrick Harding led the Wildcats with 23 points with four rebounds and two steals. Cody John added 17 points, with 13 points coming in the second half. Brekkott Chapman had 12 points, Zach Braxton had 10 and Michal Kozak had his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
WSU improved to 7-0 all-time against Portland State in the Big Sky Tournament.
Weber State and Montana will meet for the seventh time in the last 10 years in the conference tournament.
