FULLERTON, CA – The Weber State women's soccer team fell to Cal State Fullerton 0-2 this evening.Â
Â
In the last pre-season match before Big Sky Conference play starts next Friday, the Wildcats played the Titans for the second time in the series history.Â
Â
"This was certainly a tough way to finish out our non-conference games." said Interim Head Coach, Meagan Thunell. "We were missing some key players tonight, but I was pleased with how well several other players stepped up. Trinity Kerr, in particular, had a standout game tonight. That was a bright spot."
Â
The Wildcats possessed the ball well in the first half and gave themselves a few quality chances to score, however they were unable to get on the board. Both WSU and CSF's goalkeepers (Kaytlin Bradley and Victoria Ryan, respectively) were able to shut down any goals in the first half. The teams were tied 0-0 at the half.
Â
The second half brought two goals for the Titans. In the 51st minute, Atlanta Primus shot from just inside the 18 to put one past goalkeeper Kaytlin Bradley. The second goal for Cal State Fullerton came in the 66th minute, when Taylor Salgado blasted a shot 20 yards out that went in the left side of the goal.Â
Â
Though down by two goals for a significant amount of the second half, the Wildcats persevered. Junior Mylee Broad had two good opportunities on goal, one in the 63rd minute, and the other in the 86th; both were saved by the Titan's goalkeeper. "We didn't end with the desired result, but this team hasn't lost heart. We are looking forward to starting conference play at home next weekend." said Thunell.
Â
The Wildcats (1-7-0) open Big Sky Conference play with two home matches against Sacramento State and Portland State next weekend.
