Weber State beats UNI 29-17 in top-10 showdown

The Wildcats jumped out to a 17-0 lead just less than 10 minutes into the game.Â
On WSU's first play from scrimmage, Kaden Jenks found Rashid Shaheed for a 73-yard touchdown pass to give the 'Cats a 7-0 lead. UNI fumbled the kickoff return and four plays later, Trey Tuttle connected on a 25-yard field goal to make it 10-0.Â
On the next UNI possession, Brody Burke intercepted a pass, which gave the Wildcats the ball again, Kris Jackson converted on a two-yard touchdown run to make it 17-0 with 5:43 to play in the first quarter.Â
WSU led 20-3 at the end of the first quarter after a Tuttle 41-yard field goal.Â
Midway through the second quarter Jenks found Justin Malone for a 13-yard touchdown to make it 27-3.Â

WSU scored just two points in the second half after picking up a safety in the third quarter but was able to hold off the Panthers to secure the win.Â
Weber State finished with 285 yards of total offense with 219 passing and 66 yards rushing. Northern Iowa had 384 yards of total offense with 165 rushing and 219 passing.Â
The Wildcats were 5 of 16 on third down conversions and forced two Panther turnovers.Â
Jenks got the start at quarterback for the injured Jake Constantine and was 19 of 29 passing for 219 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 10 yards on six carries.Â
Kevin Smith had 14 carries for 25 yards, while Josh Davis had 10 carries for 19 yards. Davis also had six carries for 29 yards.Â
Doug Lloyd had seven punts for an average of 46.7 yards per punt, including a career-long 72 yard punt.Â
Preston Smith led the defense with 10 tackles, while Conner Mortensen had eight tackles and Auston Tesch had seven tackles with one sack. Marque Collins tied a school record with five pass breakups. Â
The Wildcats improve to 2-2 on the season. WSU opens Big Sky play next Saturday at Idaho.
