Second half struggles lead to Wildcat loss at MSU

It was a tale of two halves for Weber State in Saturday's 77-63 loss against Montana State in Bozeman. 

Weber State shot 59 percent from the field in the first half and led 42-34 at the break. In the second half, WSU shot 24 percent and was just 2 of 22 from 3-point range as the Bobcats broke away for the win. 

How it happened
Montana State jumped out to a nine point lead at 28-19. The Bobcats led 32-27 with 4:47 to play when Weber State closed the half on a 13-2 run to take a 40-34 lead at the break. Cody John had 18 points in the first half as the Wildcats shot 59 percent from the field, including 5 of 9 from 3-point range. 

Weber State made a layup to start the second half to lead 42-34 before Montana State erupted for a 16-0 run over the next six minutes to take a 50-44 lead as the Wildcats started the half 1 of 13 from the field. The 'Cats cut the lead to two points but could never get closer. WSU missed its first 15 3-pointers of the second half and finished just 2 of 22 from 3-point range.

Montana State shot 50 percent for the game, compared to 40 percent for Weber State. The Bobcats also outrebounded the Wildcats 38-29. MSU was 7 of 14 from 3-point range and had 42 points in the paint. 

Cody John led the Wildcats with 18 points, all coming in the first half. He was 7 of 15 from the field with three 3-pointers, to go along with four rebounds and played all 40 minutes. 

Jerrick Harding returned to action after missing Thursday's game with an injury. Harding finished with 16 points on 6 of 16 shooting and Kham Davis added 10 points, five rebounds and two steals.

"We had really good looks but the ball just didn't go in, it was just one of those nights. They really competed and played hard but the shots just didn't go in and sometimes that's basketball."

Up next
Weber State has just one game in the next two weeks and will play the next three games at home. WSU hosts Southern Utah next Saturday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.
