Wildcats open season with 49-21 win at Idaho State

True freshman quarterback Bronson Barron started his first career game at quarterback and led the Wildcats with 312 passing yards and four touchdowns in securing the win.
The Wildcats jumped on the board first when Barron hit Josh Davis for a 27-yard touchdown with 8:23 left in the second quarter for the first score of the game.
After forcing a turnover, the 'Cats scored again less than a minute later when Barron found David Ames for a 55-yard touchdown to give WSU a 14-0 lead, which they took into halftime.
Idaho State scored early in the third quarter to cut it to 14-7, but just a few minutes later, Barron found Rashid Shaheed for a 38-yard touchdown.
With 8:28 to play Barron hit Shaheed again on a 10-yard touchdown, then three minutes later Josh Davis broke free for a 64-yard touchdown run.
Late in the third quarter, freshman Dontae McMillan had his first career touchdown run with a three-yard TD that gave the Wildcats a 42-7 lead after three quarters.
Idaho State tacked on two touchdowns in the fourth quarter before McMillan added another touchdown with a three-yard TD with 3:36 to play.
Weber State totaled 638 yards of offense with 349 yards passing and 289 yards rushing, compared to 415 total yards for the Bengals.
Barron finished the game 17 for 27 passing for 312 yards and four touchdowns in his Wildcat debut. He also rushed for 42 yards for 354 yards of total offense.
Davis had 11 carries for 106 yards and one touchdown.
Shaheed led the receiver with five catches for 73 yards and two touchdowns. Ty MacPherson had seven catches for 93 yards.
Defensively, the Wildcats forced three ISU turnovers, including interceptions by Conner Mortensen and Logan Lutui and Desmond Williams forced a fumble. The 'Cats also had five quarterback sacks.
The Wildcats will not play next week. WSU's next scheduled game will be at home on March 13 against UC Davis at 1 p.m. at Stewart Stadium.
