Wildcats beat Bobcats in shootout 96-88

OGDEN - Weber State welcomed a limited number of fans back to the Dee Events Center and the Wildcats made sure they were entertained. Six Wildcats scored in double figures as Weber State beat Montana State 96-88 in a shootout Thursday night.Â

The game was the first of the season with fans in attendance as a limited number of 810 Wildcat fans witnessed the victory.Â
Â
Weber State improved to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in Big Sky play and the Wildcats have now won seven of their last eight games. The Wildcats also improved to 7-0 at home this season.Â

WSU shot 63 percent from the field, their best shooting performance against a Division I school this season. The 'Cats outrebounded the Bobcats 28-24 and had six steals and five blocks. Montana State made 13 3-pointers. The 96 points is also the most against a Division I team in two seasons.Â

The Bobcats got off to a fast start and led 25-16 midway through the first half. Weber State went on a 17-9 run over the next six minutes and took its first lead. MSU retook the lead of 45-43 at halftime.Â

Weber State started the second half on a 9-2 run and never looked back. WSU led by as many as 13 points with 8:47 remaining to play. But Montana State fought back and cut the lead to three points with 1:05 to play. Isaiah Brown hit a clutch jumper with 35 seconds left to push the Wildcat lead to five points and the 'Cats hung on for the win.Â

All five starters and one player off the bench scored in double figures for both teams. Three Wildcats scored 17 points to lead the way. Isaiah Brown played all 40 minutes and finished with 17 points on 8 of 11 shooting. Dontay Bassett scored 17 points, pulled down six rebounds and had two blocks. Seikou Sisoho Jawara also added 17 points and was 6 of 9 from the field.Â

Zahir Porter added 16 points with two 3-pointers. Dillon Jones came off the bench for a career-high 14 points and led the Wildcats with seven rebounds, to go along with two steals and two assists. Cody Carlson added 10 points with three rebounds and was 4 of 6 from the field.Â

The Wildcats and Bobcats will play again on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.Â
