BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The Weber State men's golf team wrapped up a dual match play event against Southern Utah in a tie after two rounds, with each team posting six points at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
The Thunderbirds took the opening round on Saturday, outscoring the Wildcats 3.5 to 2.5, but the Wildcats responded on Sunday, flipping the score to earn a 3.5 to 2.5 edge in round two.
On Saturday, Hayden Banz and Brody Childs earned full points, while freshman Oliver Gothe scored a half point in his collegiate debut with the Wildcats. Banz defeated Ali Hameed 1-Up, while Childs took the 17th hole to put away Jaxon Long 3 & 1. Gothe earned his half by matching Ryker Smith over 18 holes.
SUU's Jake Vincent edged Reese Fisher by a 1-Up score, while Tyler Jones defeated Isaac Buerger 4 & 3 and Jaden Milne downed Gunnar Knutson 4 & 2 for the Thunderbirds' three full points.
In Sunday's round, Banz earned his second full point for Weber State, taking down Vincent 3 & 2. Buerger rebounded from his opening round loss to earn a 3 & 2 win over Smith, and Gothe cruised to a 5 & 4 victory over Milne. Childs posted a half point, halving his match against Hameed.
Banz led the Wildcats with two full points in the event, while Childs and Gothe each recorded a point and a half.
