Wildcats Finish Off Sweep of Idaho State with 7-1 Win

OGDEN – The Weber State softball team completed a three-game sweep of Idaho State with a 7-1 victory on Sunday as they opened up Big Sky Conference play over the weekend.
Six different Wildcats drove home runs for Weber State and starting pitcher Amanda Sink went the distance to earn the win.
After a 1-2-3 inning from Sink to start the game, centerfielder Mia Rushton led off the bottom of the first with a single and came around to score on a Chloe Camarero triple to right field. The single by Rushton was the sixth-straight hit for the freshman, and extended a consecutive games hitting streak out to 12 in-a-row.
The Wildcats added three more runs in the second inning. Noelle Foster doubled home Lauren Hoe for the first run of the inning. She then stole third and scored on a throwing error to make the score 3-0. Katelyn Whiting drove home the final run of the inning, plating Makayla Donahoo on an RBI single.
Faith Hoe led off the third inning with a bunt single, and her twin sister Lauren Hoe doubled her home, hammering a 1-0 pitch to left field. Donahoo later singled to right, picking up an RBI as pinch runner Baylee Blanchard came around to score.
Ashlyn Visser singled home the team's final run of the game in the fourth, driving in Whiting on the hit to center field.
The Bengals finally got on the board in the top of the seventh when Rheanne Lewis drew a bases-loaded walk and Isabel Cargill came home.
Sink scattered six hits and six walks, three of which came in the final frame. She also struck out six batters, and notched her first win of the season, improving her record to 1-2.
The Wildcats improved to a game over .500 on the year at 12-11, and kept their early Big Sky record clean at 3-0. The Bengals dropped to 6-13 on the season and 0-3 in Big Sky play. Weber State will face Colorado State on Saturday, April 3 in a doubleheader at Noon and 2:00 p.m. and a single game against Utah Valley on Tuesday, April 6 at 4:00 p.m. before jumping back into Big Sky play.
