The Weber State men's golf team concluded the Colin Montgomerie HBU Husky Invitational on Tuesday with a 6th place finish at Augusta Pines Golf Club in Spring, Texas.
The Wildcats opened the tournament with rounds of 294 and 305 on Monday, and posted a final round 296 to move into their sixth place position with a tournament total of 895.
Texas-Rio Grande Valley won the team title, shooting 281-300-295 for a total of 876. Houston Baptist finished second, five shots off the lead at 881, while Gonzaga came in third, another two shots back at 883.
Isaac Buerger led the Wildcats over the two days and finished in a tie for 12th place overall. The sophomore carded rounds of 73, 79 and 69 for a 5-over-par total of 221. He recorded 10 birdies for the event, including six in his final round 69.
Reese Fisher shot rounds of 76, 73 and 74 for a tournament total of 7-over 223 to finish in the top-25 at a tie for 21st place.Â
Hugo Cepeda highlighted a tie for 38th place with an opening round 1-over-par 73 in his collegiate debut. The freshman from McKinney, Tex. posted a tournament total of 228 in his home state and carded eight birdies and an eagle in the event.
Hayden Banz (74-76-80) and Brody Childs (74-81-75) each shot totals of 230 to tie for 40th place.
HBU's Marcelo Trevino and New Orleans's Grayson Gilbert each shot 3-under-par 213 to tie for medalist honors, one shot ahead of Logan Kuehn of Southeastern Louisiana.
The Wildcats will be off until Mar. 27-28 when they will face Southern Utah in a dual match at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
