Wildcats Complete Sweep of Hornets with 4-0 Win

4/10/2021 3:59:00 PM | Softball

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Weber State completed a three-game sweep of Sacramento State on Saturday with a 4-0 win over the Hornets at Shea Stadium. The win moved the Wildcats to 16-12 overall on the season and they remain undefeated in Big Sky play at 6-0.

The Wildcats jumped on the board early, scoring twice in the first inning. After Mia Rushton led off the game with a double to left center to extend her consecutive games hitting streak to 17 straight, Ashlyn Visser singled her home to put Weber State on the board. Faith Hoe followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Chloe Camarero and the Wildcats led 2-0.

Weber State added another run in the third inning when Camarero singled home Rushton, and added an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Visser notched another RBI single, scoring Katelyn Whiting to finish off the scoring.

Amanda Sink started in the circle for the Wildcats and pitched four strong innings to earn her third win of the season, and her second of the series. The Hornets threatened in the bottom of the first, loading the bases with two outs, but Sink struck out Carley Morfey to end the threat. Sacramento State put the pressure on even more in the bottom of the fourth, loading the bases again, this time with no outs. Sink came through again for the Wildcats, however, striking out Aliyah Robles for the first out, and inducing an inning-ending double play by Milan Machado-Buckley to escape the jam.

Overall, Sink scattered five hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings before giving way to Kate Donaldson, who allowed only a single hit over the final three innings to close the door and earn her third save of the season.

Camarero and Visser each went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Weber State offensively. Visser also extended a hitting streak, running her total to nine-straight games.

The Wildcats will jump out of Big Sky play for a single game against the University of Utah on Tuesday in Salt Lake City, and then will be back to conference action with a three-game set against Northern Colorado on Friday and Saturday at Wildcat Softball Field.
