Wildcat women's track and field takes second at Big Sky Championships

WSU captured seven Big Sky titles and set five stadium records.
The Weber State women's team finished second overall at the 2021 Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at the Chick Hislop Track at Stewart Stadium.Â
WSU totaled 142 points to place second. Northern Arizona won the title with 201 points. The Wildcats have finished second in each of the last two outdoor championships.Â
In the meet the Wildcats captured seven Big Sky titles and set five stadium records.Â
On Saturday Emily Morgan-King and Kate Sorensen each won two events on the last day of the meet. Morgan-King took home first place in the 100 meters at 11.80. She then broke her own stadium record with a time of 23.46 in the 200 meters to win that race. On Friday she set a new stadium record in the 100 meters with a time of 11.37, the second-fastest time in Big Sky history.Â
Sorensen took first place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.69 in the 100 meter hurdles. She followed that up by winning the title in the 400 meter hurdles at 58.33.Â
Lexie Thompson followed her title in the 10,000 meters on Friday by winning the 5,000 meters on Saturday. She shattered the championship and stadium record in the event with a time of 16:26.72. It broke the stadium record by 45 seconds.Â
In the final event of the meet, the Wildcats finished second in the 1600 meter relay at 3:45.55. The 'Cats were also third in the 400 meter relay at 46.36.Â
Cheyenne Leatham placed in two track events. She was fourth in the 800 meters at 2:11.10 and finished fifth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:25.42.Â
Andee Brown took fourth in the 400 meter hurdles at 1:02.18 and Brittany Cardall was seventh in the 100 meters with a time of 12.40.Â
In the field events on Saturday, Alyssa Hansen was fifth in the javelin with a mark of 157-09. Kapua Pulotu finished fifth in the shot put at 46-00.50.Â
In Friday's action, Weber State set four stadium records and won two events. Summer Allen won the Big Sky title in the steeplechase with a new stadium record. She posted a time of 9:58.04 to win by 26 seconds. That time is the fourth best in Weber State history and the fifth best in Big Sky history. Bailey Wall was fourth in the steeplechase at 10:37.91.
Lexie Thompson took home gold in the 10,000 meters. She shattered the stadium and conference meet record in the event with a time of 34:23.55 to win by 38 seconds. Billie Hatch finished third in the 10K at 35:06.95 and Rylie Lusk was eighth with a time of 36:44.66.
Paige Van Meeteren finished second in the high jump with a mark of 5-09.75, which tied her career best mark and is sixth in WSU history.Â
Megan Larkins finished sixth in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 171-00 and Kapua Pulotu was sixth in the discus at 151-08.Â

Up next for those that qualify will be the NCAA West Region Championship, May 27-29 in College Station, Texas.
