NCAA West meet is May 26-29 in College Station, Texas.
Ten Weber State women's track and field athletes will continue their season at the NCAA West Preliminary Round, looking to qualify for the NCAA Championships. The 10 athletes qualified is the most ever for Weber State since the NCAA went to its current preliminary round format.Â
The NCAA West Preliminary Round will be held May 26-29 in College Station, Texas, hosted by Texas A&M. The meet includes those athletes in the top 48 in each event in the western United States. The top 12 from each event at the meet will advance to the NCAA Championships which will be June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.Â
Of the 10 athletes that have qualified for the meet, four won Big Sky titles at last week's conference championships in Ogden.Â
Two athletes are qualified for two events in the West First Round meet. Lexie Thompson has qualified for the 5,000 and 10,000 meters. She enters the meet ranked fourth in the west in the 10K with a seasonal best time of 32:49.62 and is sixth in the 5K at 15:37.34. Thompson won the Big Sky title in both events last week and set stadium records in both events. This season she has also set the Weber State school records in both events.Â
Emily Morgan-King has also qualified for two events. She enters the meet ranked 20th in the west in the 100 meters with a time of 11.40 and is 34th in the 200 meters at 23.53. She also won the conference title in both events last week and set stadium records in both.Â
Another Big Sky champion, Summer Allen, ranks fifth in the west in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase. She has a seasonal best time of 9:44.26 in the event and also set a stadium record in winning the conference title last week.Â
Kate Sorensen is 17th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 58.17. Sorensen also won the Big Sky title in the 400 meter hurdles and the 100 meter hurdles. Â
Billie Hatch is 20th in the 10,000 meters at 33:39.68. Bailey Wall ranks 25th in the steeplechase with a time of 10:12.39 and Cheyenne Leatham is 33rd in the 1,500 meters at 4:19.99.Â
Weber State has three athletes in field events that have qualified for the meet. Paige Van Meeteren ranks 31st in the high jump with a seasonal best mark of 5-09.75, after finishing second at the Big Sky Championships.Â
Two Wildcats will compete in the javelin. Alyssa Hansen is 35th at 157-10 and Lauren Olsen ranks 40th in the events with a seasonal best mark of 154-08.
