VALENCIA, Calif. – The Weber State men's golf team posted rounds of 289, 293 and 294 for a tournament total of 876 to finish seventh at the Bill Cullum Invitational, which wrapped up on Tuesday at The Oaks Club at Valencia.

The Wildcats rallied early in the day, climbing to as high as fifth place, before sliding back late into seventh position, where they opened the day.

Gunnar Knutson led the Wildcats, posting a tie for ninth place with a 2-under par tournament total of 214. Knutson opened the tournament on Monday with back-to-back rounds of 73 and then carded four birdies in a stellar bogey-free 68 on Tuesday to climb into the top-10. For the tournament, Knutson carded 11 total birdies, including five in a roller coaster opening round.

Isaac Buerger shot rounds of 72, 75 and 74 to finish in a tie for 30th place to give Weber State a second player inside the top 30.

Cameron Gray led WSU on the opening day, posting 1-under par 143 for a top-10 placement after 36 holes. A final round 79, however, dropped him to a tie for 31st with a tournament total of 6-over par 222.

Brendan Thomas shot rounds of 76, 73 and 74 for a 7-over par 223 and a tie for 35th place, while Hayden Banz rounded out the Wildcats with rounds of 73, 75 and 78 for a 10-over par 226 and a tie for 45th.

Cal State Northridge came away with the team title despite a huge final day rally by Cal Baptist. The Matadors held the 36 hole lead by four shots over UC Irvine, while Cal Baptist was in fourth place, 14 shots back of the leader. While CSUN shot a 1-over par 289 on the day, UC Irvine and third-place Hawaii both faded, shooting 294 and 293 over the final round. The Lancers, meanwhile, posted a blistering 12-under par 276 on the day to move into second place, ultimately coming up one shot short of the Matadors.

CSUN's Felix Schrott defeated UC Irvine's Darien Zhao in a one-hole playoff to win individual medalist honors after the pair tied atop the individual leaderboard at 6-under par 210.
