Wildcats drop road game 75-65 at Tarleton State

Weber State returns home to host Utah Tech Saturday night.
STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Weber State dropped a road game 75-65 at Tarleton State Tuesday night in Stephenville, Texas.
Weber State jumped out to a 15-8 lead early on before a 15-0 Tarleton State run to lead 23-15 with 8:09 left in the first half. The Wildcats then had a 9-2 run to cut the lead to one, before an 8-2 Texans run to close the first half. Tarleton State led 35-28 at halftime after 14 first half turnovers by Weber State.
The Texans had an 8-0 run and led 45-33 before a 14-1 Weber State run and the 'Cats regained the lead at 47-46 with 12 minutes to play.
Tarleton State responded with a 13-1 run over the next six minutes and led 59-48. Weber State was never closer than six points the rest of the way.
Tarleton State shot 52 percent from the field, compared to 40 percent for Weber State. The Wildcats made eight 3-pointers and was 19 of 22 from the free throw line for 86 percent. But WSU committed 22 turnovers and Tarleton State scored 26 points off those turnovers.
"I thought we really played hard and physical the entire night and took a step forward," said Wildcat head coach Eric Duft. "It was a very physical game but we battled through it, we just didn't get some things to go our way. We didn't wilt, we battled and got better."
Dillon Jones led the 'Cats with 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season, along with a team-high four assists. He was a perfect 7 of 7 from the free throw line.
Junior Ballard added 14 points with four 3-pointers and Texas native KJ Cunningham tied his career-high with 10 points.
Weber State is now 2-5 on the season. After playing six of the first seven games away from home, Weber State will finally return to the Dee Events Center when the Wildcats host Utah Tech Saturday at 7 p.m.
