Strong Final Round Carries WSU to Ninth Place Falcon Invitational Finish

USAFA, Colo. – The Weber State men's golf team shot a final round 3-under par total of 285 on Sunday to move up five spots into a 9th place finish in the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at the Eisenhower Blue Course.

The Wildcats opened the tournament on Friday with a 293 and added a 298 on Saturday. Sunday's final round 285 gave the team a tournament total of 876.

Gunnar Knutson led the Wildcats on the weekend, shooting a 1-under par total of 215 to tie for 19th place. Knutson opened with a 2-under-par 70 in Friday's first round, in which he carded three birdies against a lone bogey. He added five more bogies in an up-and-down second round of 76 on Saturday, and carded another four birdies with a single bogey in a 3-under par 69 final round.

Hayden Banz added another top-30 finish for the Wildcats as he tied for 28th with a total score of 1-over par 217. Banz posted three birdies in an opening round 71, another two in a second round 73, and added two more in his final round as he recorded a second-straight 73 to finish.

Cameron Gray opened his tournament with a 79, but steadily improved throughout the event, posting rounds of 74 and 71 to close at 8-over par 224 for a 54th place tie.

Isaac Buerger, the reigning Big Sky Conference Golfer of the Week, shot rounds of 75, 78 and 72 to post a 9-over par total of 225 to finish in a tie for 63rd place.

Brendan Thomas shot rounds of 77, 75 and 76 for a 12-over par total of 228 to tie for 83rd place.

Colorado State ran away with the team title, shooting rounds of 283, 280 and a dominating 17-under par 271 in the final round for a 30-under par tournament total of 834. Colorado finished in second place at 859, 25 shots behind the Rams, while San Jose State was third at 861.

Colorado State was led by Connor Jones and Davis Bryant, who finished 1-2 on the indiviudal leaderboard. Jones shot rounds of 68, 69 and 66 for a 13-under par total of 203 for individual medalist honors, while Bryant was a single shot back at 204 after rounds of 67, 68 and 69.
