Isaac Buerger finished third overall to lead Weber State
Wildcats Finish Second at Dolenc Invitational

MADISON, Ill. – The Weber State men's golf team wrapped up the 2022 SIUE Dolenc Invitational on Tuesday at the Gateway National Golf Links with a second place finish after shooting a final round 291 for a three-round total score of 867.
The Wildcats opened the tournament with rounds of 284 and 292 on Monday to grab a share of the lead with Big Sky Conference foe Idaho. The Vandals shot 289 on Tuesday to finish as the team champions, finishing two shots ahead of the Wildcats with a total score of 865.
"We came up a couple of shots short today, but I'm really proud of the fight and our second place finish," said head coach Scott Erling. "We will learn a lot from this experience and it will help us get better."
Isaac Buerger led the 'Cats, finishing third overall with a 5-under par total of 208. Buerger opened the tournament with six birdies and a 4-under par 67 to take the top spot on the individual leaderboard. He backed up his morning round with another three birdies and a 2-under par 69 and remained the overnight leader. He added another two birdies on the final day, shooting a 1-over par 72, but slipped to third on the leaderboard.
Charlie Forster of Southeastern Louisiana shot a 5-under par 66, while Josh Kirkham shot a 67 to tie atop the leaderboard at 7-under par 206 for the tournament. Forster grabbed individual medalist honors with an eagle on the par-5 18th hole in a playoff.
Brendan Thomas shot rounds of 70, 75 and 73 for a 5-over par total of 218 to tie for 16th, giving the Wildcats a pair of players inside the top-20. Brendan carded eight birdies for the tournament with three in each of the final two rounds.
Hayden Banz opened the tournament with a 78, but followed with back-to-back rounds of 72 to finish the tournament in a tie for 31st place at 9-over par 222. Gunnar Knutson joined Banz in 31st place after rounds of 71, 76 and 75. Knutson carded a pair of birdies and an eagle in his even-par opening round and added six more birdies over the next two rounds, including four in his final round.
Cameron Gray shot consecutive rounds of 76 on Monday and closed the tournament with a 75 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 55th at 226.
