The Weber State women's cross-country team started the season with a second-place finish at the Montana State cross country Invitational Saturday morning in Bozeman finishing only 11 points from first-place finishing hosts of the meet.

The 3-mile course saw three top-10 finishes from the Wildcats with Bailey Winter leading the way with a fourth-place finishing time of 17:04.2. Rylie Lusk finished shortly after at 17:14.0 to take fifth place.

Laurie Murphy crossed in seventh place with a time of 17:25.4.

Additionally, Billie Hatch and Bailey Wall who both competed unattached in the meet and therefore scores were not counted toward the team final, finished second and third on the day.

Coach Paul Pilkington said of the meet, "our front three ran very well for the first meet of the season. We unfortunately were missing Allie Green who is one of our top runners and has been running well so far due to COVID, but we hope to have her back and ready to go within the next two weeks." Coach Pilkington feels Allie could have helped gain enough points to take the meet as a team if she'd been able to compete. "Our back group can tighten up moving forward to help sure up some points, but I felt they did very well for the first meet of the season."

The Wildcats will be in Colombia, Missouri in two weeks on September 30 for the Gans Creek Classic.
