Wildcats Rally for Win at Eagle Invitational

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Weber State women's golf team erased a seven-shot deficit over the final 18 holes to claim the team championship on Wednesday at the Eagle Invitational at Indian Canyon Golf Course.
The Wildcats led after Monday's opening round after shooting a score of 291, but they slipped to second after Tuesday's round after shooting a 301, while Montana State shot a 291 to take the lead heading in to the final round. On Wednesday, the Wildcats made a late move as Aerin Song, Sofia Fuenmayor, Isabel Gutierrez and Emily Song combined for eight birdies on the back nine. Weber State posted a 1-under par final round of 287 to finish with a three-round total of 879, coming in four shots ahead of the Bobcats, who finished second at 883.
Aerin Song led the Wildcat charge, going four under over her final eight holes to finish in a tie for third at 1-over par 217. Her run included back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15 and was highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 17th hole. Aerin shot 2-under par 70 on the final day, to go along with rounds of 74 and 73 from the first two days. Over the tournament, Aerin carded eight birdies to go along with her final-day eagle.
Isabel Gutierrez shot rounds of 70, 77 and 71 for a 2-over par total of 218 to finish in fifth place. Gutierrez carded four birdies in the opening round and added two more in the second round and another three in the final round for nine total over her 54 holes.
Emily Song finished tied for 10th to give the Wildcats three players in the top 10. Emily, meanwhile, shot 73-76-75 for an 8-over par 224. Emily carded a team-high tying 11 birdies and added an eagle.
Sofia Fuenmayor opened with rounds of 74 and 82 before closing with a 1-under par 71 for a tournament total of 11-over par 227 to finish in a tie for 17th place. Sofia recorded 11 birdies for the tournament, with four each in her first and third rounds.
Jessica Zelasko shot rounds of 76, 75 and 77 for a 12-over par 228 to finish in a tie for 22nd, placing all five Wildcat scoring team members inside the top-25.
Sarah Hameed, who played for the Wildcats as an individual, shot rounds of 81, 80 and 85 for a total of 246 to finish in 52nd place.
Scarlet Weidig-Velazquez of Montana State shot rounds of 70, 71 and 74 for a 1-under par total of 215 for medalist honors. Tya Seth of Portland State finished second, just one shot back at 216.
