'Cats roll to 90-39 win over Park Gilbert

Weber State begins Big Sky Conference play next week hosting Montana and Montana State
OGDEN - Weber State played its final game before starting conference play and rolled to a dominating 90-39 win over Park University Gilbert Thursday afternoon at the Dee Events Center.Â
The Wildcats jumped out to a 21-0 lead over Park Gilbert, an NAIA school in Gilbert, Arizona. And the lead was never less than 17 points the rest of the way. Weber State led by as many as 53 points late in the second half before the 51-point win.Â
The 39 points allowed are tied for the fifth-fewest points allowed in a game in WSU history.Â
Weber State shot 53 percent from the field and held Park Gilbert to 25 percent shooting. The Wildcats made 13 3-pointers and were 7 of 7 from the free throw line. WSU also won the rebounding battle 45-31 and had a season-high 27 assists.
Freshman Viljami Vartiainen led the Wildcats with a season-high 14 points. He knocked down a season-high four 3-pointers and was 5 of 8 from the field.Â
Do it all Dillon Jones added another double-double, his eighth in 10 games this season. Jones had 10 points and 11 rebounds and dished out seven assists for the second straight game. Alex Tew also added 10 points and Steven Verplancken, Marko Sarenac, and Louie Jordan all had nine points. Â
The Wildcats are 7-4 on the season. Weber State will start Big Sky Conference play with two home games next weekend, hosting Montana on Thursday, December 28, and Montana State on Saturday, December 30.Â
