Wildcats roll to 93-63 win over Montana in Big Sky opener

The biggest win over Montana since 1970. Weber State hosts Montana State Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.
OGDEN - Weber State opened Big Sky Conference play with a dominating 93-63 win over Montana Thursday night at the Dee Events Center.Â
The 30-point win is Weber State's largest win over Montana since 1970. It's also the biggest win in a Big Sky opening game since 1972.Â
Five players scored in double figures for Weber State as the 'Cats shot 57 percent from the field. Weber State was also 9 of 12 from 3-point range and held Montana to just 3 of 20 shooting from 3-point range.Â
WSU also outrebouned the Grizzlies 35-30 and had 42 points in the paint.Â
Weber State led 20-16 with 8:09 to play in the first half when the Wildcats went on a 12-2 run and led 32-18. WSU led 44-28 at halftime and the lead was never less than 16 in the second half.Â
Blaise Threatt led all scorers with 18 points, which tied his season-high. He was 8 of 11 from the field and had three assist, three rebounds and two steals.Â
Three Wildcats scored 15 points. Dillon Jones had 15 points and dished out five assists, along with five rebounds. Dyson Koehler also had 15 points and led the team with seven rebounds. He was also 3 of 3 from 3-point range.Â
Steven Verplancken also had 15 points with two 3-pointers. He also had four rebounds, three steals and two assists.Â
Viljami Vartiainen added 11 points with three 3-pointers.Â
The Wildcats are 8-4 and have won three straight games. Weber State closes out 2023 hosting Montana State Saturday in a 2 p.m. tipoff at the Dee Events Center.Â
