Weber State Tennis Defeats GCU 6-1

Ogden, UT - The Weber State men's tennis team concluded their first home match with a win against Grand Canyon University on Sunday morning, downing the Lopes with a 6-1 victory at the Ogden Athletic Club.
The Weber men's tennis squad took the doubles point quickly, with the first win coming from Connor Kruger and William Zulch on court one, 6-2. Sebastian Buxman and Matteo Savio dominated their match, 6-2, and claimed the doubles point.
After securing the 1-0 lead, the 'Cats went on to control singles play as well, starting with another win at the No. 1 position for WSU's Sebastian Buxman, 6-2, 6-2. The second singles point came from Tristan Sarap after a hard-fought victory against Jonathan Da Silva, 7-5, 6-4.
William Zulch in the No. 4 position defeated his opponent by a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. Connor Kruger also took his match to three sets, by taking the upper hand, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.
At the No. 5 position, Jordan Coutinho earned another Wildcat win, 7-5, 7-5.
After a tightly contested match at the No. 6 position, GCU's Loic Van Zeggelaar was able to earn their first point when Matteo Savio took the defeat, 6-7, 6-1, 10-7.
"Grand Canyon is a solid team," said head coach Brad Ferreira. "We played extremely well today and I was impressed with how we competed."
