Weber State improves to 10-14 on the season.

Orem, UT - Weber State softball defeated Utah Valley 5-2 this evening at the Wolverine Softball Field. 
  • Brooke Hatfield pitched a complete game with one strikeout for her first win of the season. 
  • Abby Grundy and Kiaira Smith each went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Eva Richardson went 2-for-3 with one RBI and Mia Rushton went 2-for-4 with two runs.
  • The Wildcats struck first in the second after a Richardson double to center field brought Grundy home.
  • In response, the Wolverines earned a run in the bottom of the second and third innings to go up by one.
  • It was all the Wildcats from there on as Weber State totaled four more runs and kept Utah Valley scoreless throughout the remainder of the game.
  • Weber State earned their second run on an error made by Utah Valley that tied up the score 2-2. In the fifth, a Kiaira Smith double to right center brought home Rushton, and shortly after Smith touched home plate off of a Grundy double to left field. The Wildcats led 4-2 into the sixth inning. 
  • Scoreless until the top of the seventh, Mariyah Delgado hit a double to right center allowing Rushton to again find home plate and bring the score to 5-2. 
  • Weber State quickly shut down the game in the bottom of the seventh as Hatfield struck out the Wolverine's first batter. Mya Higareda then flied out and Amber Rodriguez grounded out for the Wildcats to take the 5-2 victory.

"Eva, Mia, and Abby were productive at the plate and had some key at-bats. I loved that we scored throughout the game."
 
Coming Up
The Wildcats return to the diamond March 22-23 for three games in San Diego, CA against the San Diego Toreros.
