Softball splits doubleheader against San Diego

Weber State is 11-15 on the season.
San Diego, CA – The Weber State softball team earned a split of a doubleheader against San Diego, winning game one, 3-0, and falling 3-1 in game two on Friday evening at the USD Softball Complex.
Game One - Weber State: 3 San Diego: 0
"Brooke Merrill pitched a good game and Aby Grundy had a clutch hit to get us some insurance."
"Our defense was solid today in both games but we need to keep getting better with situational hitting."

The two teams will reconvene for a single game tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. (MT).

Game One - Weber State: 3 San Diego: 0
- With both teams scoreless for four innings, the Wildcats found a run in the top of the fifth off of a single to center field by Gianna Memoli to bring Sienna Solis home. Weber State went up 1-0 over San Diego.
- The Wildcats found momentum in the sixth inning bringing in two more runs.
- Abby Grundy singled through the right side to bring in two RBI and secure the 3-0 victory over San Diego.
- Pitcher Brooke Merrill took the win for the Wildcats. She pitched a complete game with two strikeouts.
- Mia Rushton led the Weber State team going 1-for-3 at the plate with one run. Abby Grundy went 1-for-3 with two RBI and Kiaira Smith totaled two hits and six putouts.
- The Wildcats had seven hits compared to the Toreros five.
- To get on the board first, a single up the middle by San Diego brought in one run allowing the Toreros the 1-0 advantage.
- Weber State wasn't behind for long, as the Wildcats plated one run in the top of the fifth off of a Makayla Donahoo single to center field.
- With the game tied 1-1, San Diego found two more runs late in the sixth inning.
- The Wildcats trailed 3-1 heading into the top of the seventh. Unable to find home plate, the Toreros were victorious in game two (3-1).
- Jayci Finch took the loss pitching 6 innings.
- Leading the Wildcats, Abby Grundy went 1-for-3 at the plate with one run.
