Wildcats Sweep Eagles on Senior Day

4/20/2024 10:22:00 PM | Men's Tennis

Ogden, UT — The Weber State Men's Tennis team swept Eastern Washington 4-0 on Senior Day

The Wildcats picked up the double point courtesy of Matteo Savio and Tuan (Ken) Minh on court number three as they clinched their match 6-3. Tristan Sarap and Elyes Marouani won their matchup on court one 6-3 to get the 'Cats on the board first with the team doubles point.

The 'Cats honored seniors Matteo Savio and Elyes Marouani following the doubles matches against the Eagles. Savio is a senior from Melbourne, Australia who in his career as a Wildcat has won 8 singles matches, 25 doubles matches, and clinched the match against Portland State in 2022. Marouani is a senior from Tunisia, North Africa who has won 23 singles matches, 27 doubles matches and has two match clinchers in his career as a Wildcat. The clinchers came against Idaho in 2022 and Hawaii earlier this year during the Las Vegas Tournament.

In singles, the team was able to make quick work on the Eagles. Connor Kruger, Elyes Marouani, and Tuan (Ken) Minh all took their matches in straight sets to get the Wildcats to the four team point needed for the victory. Marouani clinched the No. 2 match 6-2, 6-1, Kruger took No. 3 6-0, 6-2, and Minh closed it out with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court six.

Next up for the Wildcats is the Big Sky Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona. The team will head into The Valley of the Sun as the likely number four seed in the tournament. The Wildcats closed out the regular season with a record of 9-12 (5-3).
