Weber State will play Northern Colorado Thursday, May 8
Pocatello, ID - Weber State softball defeated the number four-seeded Portland State this Wednesday afternoon at Miller Ranch Stadium in the first game of the Big Sky Tournament.
"What a great win! I'm so proud of our adjustments and finding a way to win. Brooke Hatfield pitched a great game and Taegan did an excellent job of hitting the ball hard. I loved our fight and determination."

- The Vikings were the first team on the board, tallying a run in the first inning off of an N. Martinez single. That lead held for four innings as pitcher G. Kimball kept the Wildcats scoreless.
- Weber State got a run back in the top of the fifth to tie the score when Mia Rushton singled to shortstop allowing Tori Rey to find home plate.
- With a runner in scoring position in the top of the sixth, Weber State was hopeful for a run and to take the lead. However, with two outs, Tori Rey struck out swinging and the Vikings were back at bat.Â
- Portland State found a run in the sixth to regain the lead 2-1.
- To move ahead and seize the advantage, Taegan Smith hit a home run to bring in two RBI and moments later Riley Whalen scored on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.Â
- The Wildcats advanced the score 4-2.
- Tough defense in the bottom of the seventh, only allowed one run for the Vikings and the Wildcats secured the game one victory 4-3.
- The win allows Weber State to play the number one-seeded Northern Colorado Bears on Thursday, May 9 at 9 a.m.
- Brooke Hatfield gave up six hits in seven innings and collected two strikeouts.
- Taegan Smith led the team this afternoon going 1 for 4 at the plate with one run and two RBI.
- Mia Rushton was 2 for 4 at the plate with one run and one RBI against the Vikings.Â
