Wildcats open home and Big Sky season with dominating 43-16 win

Weber State rushed for 316 yards and outscored the Vikings 27-6 in the second half.
The Wildcats rushed for 316 yards and scored five touchdowns and had three field goals and outscored the Vikings 27-6 in the second half for the first win of the season.Â
Damon Bankston continued his strong early season play with 15 carries for 133 yards and two touchdowns. He had a one-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and broke off a 75-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.Â
Weber State started the action with a 28-yard touchdown from Richie Munoz to Jacob Sharp. The Vikings tied it up with a touchdown then the two teams shared field goals and the game was tied 10-10 late in the second quarter before Bankston's touchdown gave the 'Cats a 16-10 lead at the break.Â
Kyle Thompson made his second field goal in the third quarter to put the 'Cats up 19-10. Weber State scored 24 points in the fourth quarter with another Thompson field goal, a 9-yard run by Munoz, Bankston's touchdown, and a 14-yard touchdown by freshman Davion Godley.
Clarence Butler rushed for 61 yards on two carries, Munoz rushed for 50, Adrian Cormier had 32, and Godley had 29 yards, in addition to Bankston's 133 yards for the Wildcat rushing attack.Â
Munoz finished the day 19 of 30 passing for 219 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for another.Â
Sharp had five receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown and Marcus Chretien had four catches for 56 yards.Â
On defense, Angel King had an interception and recovered a fumble and the 'Cats had eight tackles for loss with three sacks.Â
Kemari Munier-Bailey had two tackles for a loss and a sack and Garett Beck also recorded a sack. Keahnist Thompson had 1.5 tackles for loss with a half-sack with Aizik Mahuka.Â
The Wildcats are 1-1 overall and win the first Big Sky Conference game played this season.Â
It's now on the road for the next two for the Wildcats and it's three-straight games against teams from the Southland Conference.Â
WSU next plays on Saturday at Lamar in Beaumont, Texas.Â
