Threatt scored 26 points and Vartiainen added 22 points in the road win.

SACRAMENTO - Two Wildcats surpassed 20 points scored as Weber State bounced back with an 87-81 road win at Sacramento State Saturday afternoon at the Nest.

The Wildcats never trailed in the win over the Hornets and Weber State had four players finish in double figures with two leading the way.

Blaise Threatt nearly had a triple double as he finished with 26 points, just one off his career-high. He was 9 of 14 from the field and also knocked down two 3-pointers. Threatt also had nine rebounds and tied his career-high with seven assists, to go along with three steals.

Viljami Vartiainen started the game and scored a career-high 22 points and knocked down four 3-pointers. He was 6 of 10 from the field and 4 of 7 from 3-point range, and was 6 of 6 from the free throw line.

The Wildcats came out strong in the first half and led 18-7 just seven minutes into the game. Sacramento State cut the lead to three points with two minutes remaining but the Wildcats closed the first half on a 7-2 run and led 42-34 at the break.

WSU shot 58 percent from the field and made eight 3-pointers in the first half.

Weber State started the second half on a 10-3 run and led by as many as 21 points with 7:40 left to play. WSU led by 19 points with 3:32 to play before an 11-0 run by Sacramento State. The Horents cut the lead to seven but Weber State made eight free throws in the final 40 seconds to seal the win.

The 87 points by the Wildcats are tied for the most against a Division I team this season. Weber State shot 55 percent from the field, compared to 46 percent for the Hornets. WSU was 11 of 22 from 3-point range, the second-most 3-pointers made against a Division I opponent.

Weber State also outrebounded the Hornets and had 15 assists with six steals.

"I was really proud of our team today," said WSU head coach Eric Duft. "They played with great energy, effort, and connectivity. We went with the guys we thought would play the hardest and I thought they battled and competed hard and credit to them. Our veterans gave great leadership and our freshman stepped up and played with some courage, which you have to do on the road."

Freshman Trevor Hennig added 12 points on 3 of 5 shooting and Alex Tew had 11 points in just 20 minutes of action and four rebounds and was 4 of 4 from the field.

Saturday's game ended a stretch of five of the first seven Big Sky games on the road for the Wildcats.

Weber State will close the regular season with seven of the next 11 games at home, including a four-game home stretch starting on Thursday, January 30 against Idaho at the Dee Events Center.
