Game 10: 'Cats hit the road at No. 3 Montana State Saturday

Weber State and Montana State will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be televised in Utah on The Spot 16 and on ESPN+.
• Weber State hits the road for another matchup against a long time rival and a nationally-ranked team as the Wildcats play at No. 3 Montana State Saturday in Bozeman.
• The Wildcats are 3-6 overall and 1-4 in Big Sky play and are coming off a 38-17 home loss to No. 3 Montana last Saturday.
• Montana State is 7-2 overall and 5-0 in Big Sky play and ranked third in the country in this week's national polls.
• This is the first time Weber State has played teams in the top three in the nation in back-to-back weeks.
• Senior captain Jayleen Record had a career receiving day against Montana on Saturday.

Saturday's game will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium in Bozeman. The game will be televised on Scripps Sports and shown in Utah on The Spot Utah 16 with Ben Creighton, Ty Gregorak and Grace Lawrence calling the action. It will also be streamed on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
The Weber State radio broadcast will be on 103.1 FM with Carl Arky and former WSU head coach and athletic director Jerry Graybeal on the call.

'Cats fall to No. 3 Montana
Weber State dropped a home game for the second straight week as the 'Cats fell 38-17 to No. 3 Montana on Saturday at Stewart Stadium.
The Grizzlies jumped out to a 28-3 lead early in the second quarter, before Weber State responded and outscored Montana 14-10 the rest of the way.
Montana totaled 522 yards of total offense with 329 yards passing and 193 yards rushing, while Weber State had 327 total yards, with 213 yards passing and 114 yards on the ground.
Two touchdowns and a career-high for Jayleen Record
Weber State senior captain Jayleen Record had a career-day for the Wildcats on Saturday. Record had eight receptions for a career-high 107 yards and two touchdowns against the Grizzlies. He hauled in an 11-yard touchdown in the second quarter and an 18-yard reception in the third quarter.
This was Record's second career game surpassing 100 receiving yards and both came against Montana. Record had three catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns in Weber State's 2024 win at Montana.
On the season, Record leads Weber State with 30 receptions for 351 yards and three touchdowns.
In his three seasons with the Wildcats, Record has 73 catches for 825 yards and nine touchdowns.
Career day for Colter May
Another Weber State captain, senior Colter May, also had a career day against Montana. May had 19 carries for a career-high 74 rushing yards against the Grizzlies. This is May's sixth season in the Weber State program. He is one of three players still on the team that was part of the spring 2021 team that won a Big Sky championship.
Prior to Saturday's game, May had 22 career rushing attempts for 75 yards. He nearly doubled both of those in the game against Montana was 19 carries for 74 yards. He has played in 40 games in his Wildcat career.
Sloan Calder second in nation in field goals per game
Wildcat senior Sloan Calder made one field goal in Saturday's game as he knocked down a 29-yard field goal in the first quarter.
Calder leads the Big Sky and is second in the nation in field goals per game at 1.67. He has made at least one field goal in eight of the nine games this season and has made at least two six times.
On the season, Calder is 15 of 18 on field goal attempts. The 15 field goals made is also the second-most of any player in the country. He needs one more field goal to get into the WSU single-season top 10 for field goals in a season.
He is also 20th in the nation in field goal percentage at 83.3 percent.
Two quarterbacks see action
Weber State played two quarterbacks in Saturday's game as Dijon Jennings started the game and freshman Kingston Tisdell finished the game. Jennings was 15 of 21 passing for 97 yards and a touchdown. Tisdell came into the game in the third quarter and was 10 of 21 passing for 116 yards and a touchdown, in just his second collegiate game.
WSU's previous starting quarterback sophomore transfer Jackson Gilkey suffered a broken fibula in the game at UC Davis and will miss the rest of the season after surgery last week. Redshirt freshman Cash McCollum, a transfer from UTSA, is also out indefinitely with a broken right hand.
Jennings is in his second season at Weber State. The Reynoldsburg, Ohio, began his career at the University of Akron, then transferred to Weber State prior to last season. This season he has started the last four games and has throw for 554 yards and three touchdowns.
Tisdell is a true freshman from Inglewood High School in Los Angeles. He threw for 6,898 yards and 73 touchdowns in his high school career.
In two games this season, he has thrown for 143 yards and a touchdown.
Rivalry stretch
The final four games of the season will be rivalry stretch for Weber State. The Wildcats will close the season home to Montana, at Montana State, at Idaho State, and home to Northern Arizona. Those four schools are the four Weber State has faced the most in its history. This is only the third time ever Weber State has played those four teams in consecutive weeks and the first ever to end the season.
Team captains
As selected by their teammates, Weber State has named four captains for the 2025 season. Wildcat senior fullback Colter May, senior offensive lineman Gavin Ortega, senior wide receiver Jayleen Record, and junior defensive tackle Keahnist Thompson will be the team captains for the 2025 season. Record is a captain for the second-straight season. May and Ortega were both selected as preseason All-Big Sky selections.
About No. 3 Montana State
The Bobcats enter Saturday's game ranked third in the nation in this week's national polls and have won seven straight games.
MSU started the season with back-to-back losses at Oregon and a double overtime loss to No. 2 South Dakota State, but have since won seven straight games, including five straight Big Sky Conference games. Montana State has won the five Big Sky games by an average of 45.6 to 10.2.
Montana State was 15-1 last season and 8-0 in Big Sky play and advanced to the championship game of the FCS Playoffs.
The Bobcats rank high in the Big Sky and the nation in several categories. MSU leads the Big Sky in scoring defense, total defense, rushing defense, defensive efficiency, opponent first downs, third down conversions, opponent third down conversions, and red zone defense.
Nationally, MSU is first in the nation in third down conversion percentage, sixth in rushing offense, seventh in scoring defense, seventh in rushing defense, seventh in first downs, and ranks 11th in total defense, turnover margin, and red zone offense.
The Bobcats have won 21 straight home games against Big Sky opponents, dating back to 2019.
Montana State is coached by Brent Vigen who is in his fifth season as head coach. He has led Montana State to a 54-12 overall record and a 34-3 record in Big Sky play. He also guided MSU to the FCS Playoffs in all four seasons. Vigen's Bobcat teams are 34-0 against unranked FCS opponents. The 'Cats are also 19-0 at home against Big Sky teams under Vigen.
Series history
This will be the 57th meeting all-time between the two schools who are both charter members of the Big Sky Conference. Montana State holds a 34-23-1 all-time lead since Weber State became a Division I school.
The Bobcats have won the last four games, including a 40-0 win in Ogden in 2023, the last time the two teams played.
MSU is 17-10-1 all-time in games in Bozeman and has won the last two and four of the last five, dating back to 2008.
This will be Weber State's first trip to Bozeman since 2022, when the Wildcats played twice at Bobcat Stadium. MSU beat Weber State 43-38 during the regular season, when both teams were ranked in the top five in the country. The two teams met again that season on December 3 in Bozeman in the second round of the FCS Playoffs, a 33-25 Montana State win.
With the announcement of the 2026 Big Sky schedule, Weber State will be returning again to Bozeman next year to face the Bobcats on October 24.
