'Cats continue road trip at Kansas City Wednesday

Wildcats and Roos will play for the second time this season after WSU's win in Ogden on November 29.
• Weber State continues its road trip with another Summit League game and a rematch with the Roos as the Wildcats take on Kansas City Wednesday night.
• The 'Cats and the Roos will tipoff at 7 p.m. Central time (6 p.m. Mountain time) from the Swinney Center in Kansas City. The game will be televised by the Summit League Network, which is available for a fee at thesummitleague.org.
The WSU radio broadcast will be on 103.1 FM with Carl Arky on the call. Live stats and video links are at WeberStateSports.com and the Weber State Wildcats app.
• Weber State is 4-5 on the season heading into Wednesday's game. The Wildcats played two games in the Summit League Challenge last week. The 'Cats beat Oral Roberts 92-66 at home, before an 88-65 loss at St. Thomas on Sunday.
In Sunday's loss, St. Thomas shot 57 percent from the field and knocked down nine 3-pointers. Weber State shot 42 percent from the field and had a season-high 17 turnovers.
• Wednesday's game will be a rematch of a game played on November 29 in Ogden, an 82-61 Wildcat win at the Dee Events Center. This is the second of three straight road games for the Wildcats. It's also the last of four straight games for Weber State against teams from the Summit League.
• Junior Jace Whiting led the Wildcats in scoring for the second straight game as he finished with 18 points and knocked down three 3-pointers. Whiting had 17 points in the win over Oral Roberts and has led the 'Cats in scoring in three of the last four games.
On the season, he leads Weber State in scoring at 14.3 points per game and is second on the team in assists and 3-point field goals made.
• Weber State ranks fourth in the country in 3-point field goal defense, allowing opponents to shoot just 24.4 percent from 3-point range this season. WSU did give up 11 3-pointers to Oral Roberts and nine to St. Thomas last week. The 'Cats have allowed three or fewer 3-pointers in four of the nine games this season.
• WSU also ranks 15th in the country in rebounding at 43.1 per game. The 'Cats have outrebounded their opponents in seven of the nine games, and lead the Big Sky in rebounding margin at +9.1.
WSU leads the Big Sky in 3-point defense, rebounding, and rebounding margin, and also ranks second in scoring offense and third in field goal defense and assists.
• Weber State currently has five players averaging in double figures scoring. Malek Gomma and Edwin Suarez Jr. both rank fifth and sixth in the Big Sky in rebounding. Tijan Saine Jr. is also fifth in the conference in assists and fourth in assist to turnover ratio.
WSU is 4-0 this season when leading its opponents in assists, and 0-4 when trailing.
• Kansas City enter Wednesday's game at 1-8 and the Roos have lost their last eight straight games. The Roos opened the season with a win over Evangel but have since lost eight straight, including Nov. 29 at Weber State. They lost at home to Idaho State and on the road to Eastern Washington last week in the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge. Wednesday's game will be just the fourth home game for the Roos this season.
• The Roos are coached by Marvin Menzies who is in his fourth season at Kansas City. Menzies is 41-65 in his four seasons with the Roos. He spent nine seasons as head coach at New Mexico State and three years as head coach at UNLV. He has won 287 games in his coaching career.
• This is just the second meeting ever between the two schools and the second this year. The 'Cats beat the Roos 82-61 in Ogden on Nov. 29. Weber State never trailed in the game and shot 53 percent from the field and made 10 3-pointers. Five different Wildcats scored in double figures in the win and WSU outrebounded the Roos 41-24.
• The Wildcats are coached by Eric Duft who is in his fourth season as head coach and his 20th season overall at Weber State.
Duft is a native of Sterling, Kansas and attended Sterling College. He also coached at Hutchinson Junior College for seven seasons before coming to Weber State in 2006.
• After Wednesday, the 'Cats have a week off before playing at Utah Valley on Wednesday, Dec. 17 in Orem. The next home game will be on Dec. 20 against Utah Tech.
