Wildcats fall at Montana

MISSOULA, Mont. - Weber State made a rally and held a second half lead but couldn't overcome a big run by Montana as the Grizzlies beat the Wildcats 65-58 Saturday night at Dahlberg Arena. Â
Montana jumped out to a quick 13-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game. The Grizzlies led by eight with 8:50 to play in the half when the Wildcats went on a 21-9 run and took a four-point lead late in the first half. The Grizzlies knocked down a 3-pointer in the final seconds of the half but the Wildcats held a 33-32 lead at the break.Â
The Wildcats scored the first four points of the second half to take a five-point lead. WSU led by four with 14:27 to play when Montana went on a 17-3 run over the next nine minutes and took a 10-point lead. The Wildcats were never closer than seven points the rest of the way as Montana won its eighth straight game and moved into first place in the Big Sky standings.Â
Blaise Threatt had another terrific performance for the Wildcats as he led all scorers with 24 points. He was 10 of 19 from the field and knocked down one 3-pointer. He also had five rebounds and four assists and played all but 11 seconds of the game. He leads the Wildcats in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and minutes played. He is averaging 27.5 points per game over the last four games.Â
Threatt also reached a career milestone, surpassing 2,000 points for his college career. He has played in 138 career games in three seasons at Colorado Mesa and two at Weber State.Â
Two other Wildcats scored in double figures. Viljami Vartiainen had 11 points and made three 3-pointers. Freshman Trevor Hennig also had 11 points and played all 40 minutes of the game.Â
Montana was fourth in the country in field goal percentage entering the game and shot 50 percent from the field in the win They also knocked down eight 3-pointers. Weber State shot 49 percent from the field with five 3-pointers.Â
The two teams both had 25 rebounds but the Wildcats committed 14 turnovers and Montana dished out 17 assists.Â
Weber State returns to the Dee Events Center for two games this week taking on Sacramento State on Thursday night and Portland State on Saturday afternoon, The Wildcats have just five games remaining before the Big Sky Tournament.Â
