Wildcats split day two of the Lyman Classic Tournament

ST. GEORGE - Weber State softball split day two of the Lyman Classic Tournament with an 11-3 (6 Inn.) loss to the Boise State Broncos but then snapped back with a 5-3 win against the UC San Diego Tritons. 

Weber State 3, Boise State 11 (6 Inn.)
  • The Wildcats started hot against the Broncos as Taegan Smith hit a home run to left center field for two RBI. 
  • Boise State found solo runs in the second and third innings to tie the score 2-2.
  • The Broncos began to pull away in the fourth inning going up 6-2 over the Wildcats. 
  • Another home run in the fifth inning by Wildcat Sadie Kirk earned the 'Cats their third point.
  • Unable to stop the Broncos, Boise State went on to win the game 11-3.
  • Jayci Finch took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings with two strikeouts. 
  • Mariyah Delgado recorded five putouts.
  • Weber State totaled five hits compared to Boise State's 13. 
Weber State 5, UC San Diego 3
  • Weber State totaled two runs in the bottom of the first after Olivia Birkinshaw singled up the middle, bringing home two RBI.
  • Tough defense kept UC San Diego scoreless and the 'Cats were back at bat in the bottom of the second. 
  • Eva Richardson hit a home run in to bring the Wildcats score to 3-0. 
  • Another run for the Wildcats came when Emma Bingham hit a home run to left center field.
  • UC San Diego recorded their first run in the top of the sixth and found two more shortly after.
  • Abby Grundy then hit a home run in the bottom of the sixth and advanced the score to 5-3. 
  • Unable to respond in the top of the seventh, Weber State walked away with the 5-3 win. 
  • The Wildcats snapped an eight-game losing streak and won their first game of the Lyman Classic Tournament. 
  • Joslynn Veltien earned the win as she pitched 6.0 innings and totaled three strikeouts. 
  • Delgado led the team defensively with seven putouts. 
  • Whalen went 3-for-3 at the plate with one run.
