Tew tied his career-high with 16 points in Weber State's win at Eastern Washington.
CHENEY, Wash. - With 0.4 seconds on the clock, Blaise Threatt found Alex Tew for an incredible tip-in at the buzzer to give Weber State a 66-64 win at Eastern Washington Thursday night at Reese Court.Â
Tew had a career night for Weber State as he tied his career-high with 16 points. He was 5 of 6 from the field and a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line. He also had four rebounds, three steals, and two assists.Â
Both teams struggled from the field and both shot 43 percent from the field. EWU knocked down eight 3-pointers, compared to six for the Wildcats. Weber State was 16 of 19 from the free throw line and had 14 assists and 11 steals.Â
The Wildcats jumped off to a quick 9-0 lead. WSU led by nine again with 8:27 to play in the first half when the Eagles went on an 8-0 run. EWU tied the game with five minutes to play in the half but the Wildcats held a 27-24 lead at halftime.Â
Weber State led by seven midway through the second half when Eastern Washington responded with a 13-4 run over the next four minutes and took its first lead at 50-48. There were five ties and three lead changes in the final six minutes.Â
The Eagles led by five with 2:55 to play before Nemanja Sarenac made his third 3-pointer of the game, followed by a Tew layup tied the game at 60-60 with 2:08 to play.Â
The Eagles took the lead again before four straight points by the Wildcats put Weber State on top 64-62 with 31 seconds left. Two EWU free throws tied the game to set up the final play. The Eagles blocked a Threatt layup out of bounds with 0.4 seconds remaining, which set up the epic Tew tip-in.Â
Tew was one of four Wildcats in double figures scoring. Threatt added 14 points, to go along with seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals.Â
Freshman Trevor Hennig added 12 points and Nemanja Sarenac came off the bench with 11 points and knocked down three 3-pointers.Â
WSU is now 5-11 in Big Sky play with two games remaining.Â
Weber State continues the final week of Big Sky play on Saturday afternoon playing at Idaho. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. Pacific time (3 MT) in Moscow, Idaho.Â
The Wildcats will close out the regular season on Monday, March 3 at home against Northern Colorado.Â
