Wildcats secure series win with 4-0 victory over Vikings

OGDEN - Weber State secured their first series of Big Sky play 2-1 with a 4-0 win over the Vikings this Saturday afternoon.Â
The Wildcats struck first off a Olivia Birkinshaw home run, her sixth of the season.Â
Adding another in the second inning, Abby Grundy scored on a Riley Whalen fly out to center field. Unable to create any other offense, the Vikings retired the side leaving two Wildcats on base.Â
Keeping the Vikings scoreless, Weber State then tacked on their third run of the day when Grundy hit a home run to center field.Â
Weber State brought one home on an unearned run in the fifth to advance the score 4-0.
The Wildcat defense continued to work, keeping Portland State off the bases. Pitcher Cali McCraw totaled her first strikeout of the day in the sixth, not allowing a single hit.
Wildcats Taegan Smith, Kirk and Kiaira Smith made their third double play of the game in the bottom of the sixth to close it out 4-0 in favor of the purple and white. Weber State secured the series win 2-1 against the Vikings.Â
McCraw took the win (6-4) as she pitched 4.0 innings facing 15 batters for an ERA of 4.37. Grundy led the squad going 2-for-3 at bat, totaling two runs and a single RBI.Â
