Wildcats drop two to Bengals

4/11/2025 5:57:00 PM | Softball

OGDEN - Snapping the Wildcats six game win streak, the Idaho State Bengals took a 4-2 first game win followed by a 2-1 game two victory.

GAME ONE
Weber State 2, Idaho State 4

In the first at-bat for the Wildcats, a Riley Whalen triple put the 'Cats in scoring position. A Taegan Smith RBI single then put Weber State on the board first.

The 'Cats made quick work of the Bengals in the second inning with a three up, three down defensive showing. Moving to the bottom of the inning, Weber State left one runner on base, unable to generate any offense.

It was another quick inning for the Bengals in the third, as a double play turned by Taegan Smith and Kiaira Smith retired the side.

Idaho State threatened in the top of the fourth with runners on second and third, but Cali McCraw got the 'Cats out of the jam as Rebecca Quinn struck out swinging.

Idaho State tied the score at 1-1 following a flyout to center field. A two-RBI double from Jenna Kearns then gave the Bengals a 3-1 lead.

To bring another run across for Weber State, pinch hitter Emma Bingham hit an RBI triple, cutting the deficit to one.

In the top of the seventh, Bengal Ava Brown added some insurance with an RBI triple, extending Idaho State's lead to 4-2.

Weber State looked to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't generate the needed offense, and the game ended in favor of the black and orange, 4-2.

The triple was Whalen's second and Bingham's first of the season. Whalen led the team, going 3-for-4 at the plate.

McCraw took the loss (8-5), facing 30 batters and recording two strikeouts.

GAME TWO

The Wildcats once again struck first in the second game of the day against the Bengals, as Taegan Smith came around to score after reaching on an error.

The Bengals responded in the fourth inning, tying the game at 1-1 with an RBI single from Kennedy Dudley.

With the game still tied up in the seventh, Jenna Kearns delivered a clutch home run to left field, giving the Bengals the lead.

The Wildcats went down in order in the bottom half of the inning, as the Bengals secured the win and completed the sweep on day one of the series.

Brooke Merrill (2-3) was tagged with the loss.
