Wildcat softball falls short, Bengals sweep series

Kennedy Dudley put Idaho State on the board first with an RBI double in the top of the first inning.
Weber State quickly responded in the bottom half, tying the game 1–1 thanks to a Kiaira Smith RBI single that brought home Riley Whalen.
The Wildcats took a brief 2–1 lead in the second inning when Olivia Birkinshaw scored on a wild pitch.
Idaho State answered in the third, reclaiming the lead after Alyssa Yee launched a two-run homer, putting the Bengals up 3–2.
Weber State threatened in the bottom of the third with runners in scoring position, but a sharp double play by the Bengals followed by a groundout to second base ended the inning.
The Bengals broke the game open in the fourth, plating five runs on four hits to extend their lead to 8–2.
Weber State chipped away at the deficit in the fifth. Birkinshaw scored on a groundout to shortstop, and Emma Bingham's RBI single brought in Jordan McMahon, trimming the lead to 8–4.
After a quiet sixth inning, Weber State added one more run in the seventh but couldn't complete the comeback, as Idaho State secured the 8–5 win.
Offensively, Riley Whalen led the Wildcats, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Kiaira Smith added a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI, and Taegan Smith went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
