Ogden, UT - The Weber State Women's Soccer team defeated the North Dakota State Bison 3-1 to win their third game in a row and go 2-0 on the weekend homestand.
"The whole theme of this game was start fast and score early, and I thought we did a good job doing that." Head Coach Kyle Christensen said, "I am happy overall with the effort the team put in the get 2 home wins."
The Wildcats broke through twice in the 1st half and secured a late clincher in the 86th minute. Grace Kirby got the 'Cats on the board with a goal to the top shelf, and was followed 4 minutes later by a double-assisted goal that Presley Ray capped off.
In the 86th minute, Grace Kirby sent a corner kick to the left side of the box that Brynlee Meyerhoffer sent back across to give the 'Cats a two-goal advantage late. They would hold on to the advantage to secure a 3-1 win.
The Wildcats and Bison tied in shots on goal with 7 apiece. Tenzi Knowles led the 'Cats with 2, one being saved in the 54th minute and one missed just left in the 60th.
All 7 of the Bison shots on goal came in the first half, with one breaking through in the 30th minute. Freshman Lauren Butorac had 6 saves in the first half, including one defending a corner kick in the 7th minute.
The Wildcats have now won 3 games in a row for the first time since 2022. They will look to continue the streak on Thursday night in Lincoln, Nebraska, where they will take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers. That match will begin at 6:00 p.m. (M.T.) and will be streaming on Big 10+.Â
"We have a big test upcoming at Nebraska where we will have to give everything we've got to try to get a result there." Christensen said, "We look forward to it."
The Wildcats will finally return home on September 15th against the Utah Valley Wolverines. That match will kick off at 7:00 p.m. and will be a blackout.Â
