Wildcats shut out Broncos in Boise

Boise, ID - The Weber State Women's Soccer team defeated the Boise State Broncos 2-0 in the first clean sheet of freshman Lauren Butorac's career.
The Wildcats broke through early. In fact, it was the earliest goal scored in both Weber State and Big Sky Conference history as Presley Ray put it in the back of the net, following a game of pinball, just 20 seconds in.
Insurance came in the form of Sammie Sofonia in the 81st minute following a cross into the box from Bailey Brown. Sofonia put it past the keeper into the bottom left to give the 'Cats the 2-0 lead that would be the final.
The Wildcats' defense and freshman goalkeeper Lauren Butorac stole the show in the 2nd frame, keeping the Broncos off the board despite being outshot 12-2 in the 2nd half and 16-6 for the game.
Butorac pushed a shot wide for a save in the 62nd minute to keep the 'Cats in front, and provided the dagger when she saved a penalty kick in the 88th minute to preserve the lead and the first clean sheet of her career.
The win moves the Wildcats to 4-2 on the season and continues their hot start to the season.
Next up is the Utah State Aggies in Logan, Utah, on Thursday, September 11th. That match will kick off at 7:00 p.m. Streaming will be available on the Mountain West Network, and live stats will be available at weberstatesports.com.
The Aggies are the reigning Mountain West Tournament champions and are off to a 1-1-2 start to their 2025 campaign.
The Wildcats will return to the home pitch on Monday, September 15th, where they will play host to the Utah Valley Wolverines. That match will kick off at 7:00 p.m.Â
