Jacob Peterson finishes third individually as Weber State earns a third place team finish in Flagstaff
The Weber State men's cross country team capped its 2026 season with a third place finish at the Big Sky Championships Friday in Flagstaff, Arizona, scoring 79 points as a team.
Northern Arizona won the team title with 20 points, while Montana State finished second with 71 points. Weber State followed in third with 79 points.
Jake Peterson led the way for the Wildcats, earning a third place individual finish with a time of 23:56.8. Peterson's performance capped a strong season for the Weber State senior, who consistently led the Wildcats throughout the year.
Tyler Spencer followed Peterson in 16th place, finishing in 24:40.0. Evan Harris added a 19th-place finish in 24:58.4, while Carson Day recorded a personal-best time of 25:02.6 to finish 20th.
Raivio Manzer rounded out Weber State's scoring five in 28th place with a time of 25:08.0.
The Wildcats continued to pack runners throughout the field, with Caleb Woolford finishing 31st in 25:16.4 and Alex Maxfield placing 34th in 25:19.7.
Paul Scown crossed the finish line in 40th at 25:25.7, followed by Colby Jenks in 44th at 25:36.3. Jess Christiansen finished 53rd with a time of 25:57.9.
The third place finish caps a season of growth for a young Weber State team that returned just two runners from last year's Big Sky Championships roster.
Earlier this week, head coach Corbin Talley emphasized the development of the group throughout the season and the work the Wildcats had put in leading into the championship race.
Through some ups and downs this year we have learned a lot about ourselves and grown a lot, Talley said. I'm really proud of the development of the guys who are lining up at the Big Sky Championships this week. They have worked really hard and come together well.
Peterson's third place finish gives Weber State a strong individual performance to go with its third place team finish as the Wildcats closed the season with a spot on the Big Sky Championships podium.
The Wildcats now turn their attention to the NCAA Mountain Region Championships and Nationals, which will conclude the 2026 season.
