Wildcats fall to Wolverines in St. George

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Weber State fell to Utah Valley 6-4 this Friday evening. The Wildcats State rallied with a four-run sixth inning, but the Wolverines maintained their lead, securing the win with two runs in the sixth.
Utah Valley took an early lead in the first inning when Mann homered to left field, scoring the first run. By the end of the first inning, Utah Valley led 1-0.
In the second inning, Utah Valley extended its lead with two runs. Moreno hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Higareda, followed by Binne scoring on a fielder's choice. They held a 3-0 lead at the end of the second inning.
The Wolverines added another run in the fifth inning with an RBI single by Sterzer, increasing their lead to 4-0.
In the sixth inning, Utah Valley scored two more runs with a two-RBI triple by Moreno, bringing the score to 6-0. However, the Wildcats responded in their half of the inning. Taegan Smith doubled, driving in Jordan McMahon, and Apollonia Maldonado hit a three-run homer to center field, cutting the deficit to 6-4.
Neither team scored in the seventh inning, and the game concluded with Utah Valley securing a 6-4 victory over the Wildcats.
Cali McCraw started the game for Weber State, pitching four innings and allowing three earned runs on four hits, while issuing three walks. McCraw faced 19 batters, conceding a home run and a double, and recorded a total of 62 pitches.
RJ Parra came on in relief, pitching three innings and also giving up three earned runs on six hits, with one strikeout. Parra threw 43 pitches and faced 14 batters, including allowing a triple.
Maldonado recorded three RBI with a home run, contributing significantly to the scoring effort. Taegan Smith added to the offensive output with a double, driving in one run while also scoring.Â
