Trailblazers narrowly defeat Wildcats 5-4

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Weber State fell to Utah Tech with a final score of 5-4 at Karl Brooks Field on Saturday. Despite a seventh-inning rally that produced three runs, the Wildcats could not overcome the Trailblazers decisive seventh inning.
Weber State faced Utah Tech in a tightly contested matchup. The game remained scoreless through the first three innings, with neither team able to capitalize on early opportunities.
In the fourth inning, the 'Cats broke through when Apollonia Maldonado hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Victoria Rey to score. However, Utah Tech responded in the bottom half with two runs, taking a 2-1 lead after a double by Giroux brought in Phillips, followed by a run scoring on a groundout. The score was 2-1 in favor of Utah Tech after four innings.
Cail McCraw pitched 4.1 innings for Weber State, allowing three runs on three hits while issuing two walks and striking out one. McCraw faced 21 batters, throwing 86 pitches.
The fifth and sixth innings were quiet, with neither team adding to the score, holding the line at 2-1 for Utah Tech.
In the seventh inning, Weber State mounted a late comeback. A fielding error allowed Sammy Gallegos to reach base, scoring two unearned runs, and another wild pitch allowed a pinch runner to score, giving the Wildcats a 4-2 lead. However, Utah Tech answered in the bottom of the inning. A fielding error and a single brought in three unearned runs, sealing a 5-4 victory for Utah Tech.
Jade Curiel entered in relief, pitching two innings without allowing a hit, but yielded six walks and two runs, striking out three batters across 41 pitches.
Jordan McMahon collected two hits in the game, and Maldonado contributed one hit and recorded an RBI with a sacrifice fly. Sadie Kirk added a hit and scored a run, reaching base after being hit by a pitch.
