Weber State drops pair in Greeley

4/24/2026 11:00:00 PM | Softball

GREELEY, Colorado - The Weber State softball team dropped a pair of games against the Northern Colorado Bears at Gloria Rodriguez Field.

Game 1: Northern Colorado 13, Weber State 10

The opening game against the Bears featured 23 combined runs and 31 hits. The Wildcats struck first when Abby Grundy launched a solo home run to left field in the top of the first. However, the Bears responded quickly to take a 3-1 lead heading into the fourth.

The fourth inning turned into a highlight reel for both sides. Weber State exploded with eight runs to retake a commanding 9-3 lead. The rally from the Wildcats included an RBI single from Grundy that drove in two, run-scoring hits from Apollonia Maldonado, Mariyah Delgado and Riley Whalen and a solo home run by Emma Bingham.

The momentum was short-lived, however, as the Bears answered with an eight-run bottom of the fourth, powered by two grand slams to flip the game and take an 11-9 lead.

Delgado added a late RBI double in the sixth to bring the Wildcats within range, but Northern Colorado's defense held firm to close out the game 13-10.

Whalen had a perfect afternoon at the plate, finishing 4-for-4, while Delgado added three hits and two RBIs.

Game 2: Northern Colorado 13, Weber State 2 (5)

In the second game, the Bears utilized a massive 11-run fourth inning to secure a run-rule victory.

Weber State found success early in the fourth when Kiaira Smith delivered a pinch-hit RBI single to score Whalen, cutting the deficit to 2-1. However, the Wildcats' defense struggled in the bottom half of the inning, as three errors helped fuel the Bears' 11-run explosion.
