Wildcats rally, fall short to Bears

The Wildcats wasted no time as Sadie Kirk set the tone with a lead off walk before Apollonia Maldonado hit a two-run home run bomb to center field, giving Weber State an immediate 2-0 advantage.Â
The offense continued in the second inning for the 'Cats after Mariyah Delgado and Riley Whalen reached base. Sammy Gallegos then delivered a two-RBI single to right field. Moments later, Kirk lined a double to left-center to drive in two more runs. Before the inning was over, Maldonado added her third RBI of the game, extending the Wildcats lead to 7-1.Â
The Bears fought back in the third inning. Using a three-run home run to cut the deficit to 7-4. Northern Colorado then capitalized on a Weber State error later in the inning to trail by two.Â
Momentum shifted in the fourth inning, when UNC hit a two-run double that tied the game at 7-7. Another run then came in the bottom of the fifth when Longo hit a solo home run to left field, giving the Bears an 8-7 lead and securing the game.Â
