‘Cats had seven all-conference performances, including a conference title by Ethan Ecker in the javelin. Tyler Warnick was named Freshman of the Year.

Weber State men's track and field finished fifth at the 2026 Big Sky Championships, held at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon, and hosted by Portland State.

The meet was hit by torrential rain, and Saturday had three lightning delays. The Wildcats totaled 93.5 points to finish fifth.

Head coach Corbin Talley's Wildcats had seven All-Big Sky performances with one individual victory and the freshman of the year award.

WSU's Ethan Ecker was the only Wildcat to capture a conference championship as he won the title in the javelin on Friday. He posted a career-best mark of 232-00 to win the event and became the first Wildcat to win a Big Sky title in the javelin in 21 years.

Ecker's mark is the third-best in Weber State history. It is also currently 14th in the NCAA West Region and will qualify him for the regional meet in two weeks.

The meet began on Wednesday and Thursday with the multi-events, and the Wildcats had two all-conference performers in the decathlon. WSU freshman Tyler Warnick finished second in the event with a career-best point total of 7,161 points, which is the fourth-best in Weber State history. Brogan Garrett also earned All-Big Sky honors and finished third with a total of 6,693 points.

Warnick was the leading scorer for the Wildcats as he totaled 17 points and placed in three events. He finished fourth in the long jump on Friday with a mark of 23-07.25, and finished fifth in the high jump on Saturday at 6-08.00.

For his performance, Warnick was named the Big Sky Men's Freshman of the Year.

Senior Peter Visser scored 16 points with two second-place finishes. He was second in the steeplechase at 8:37.84 on Friday and followed that up by finishing second in the 5,000 meters on Saturday afternoon with a time of 13:52.18.

The steeplechase was WSU's top event as the 'Cats scored 21 points and had four of the top six finishers. In addition to Visser, Owen Rogers also earned All-Big Sky honors as he finished third with a time of 8:40.29. TJ Warnick was fifth with a career-best time of 8:51.99, and William Horne was sixth with a career-best time of 8:52.39.

Freshman Wyatt Larkins earned All-Big Sky honors in the hammer throw as he finished second overall with a throw of 207-07.

In other events, the Wildcats placed three runners in the 10,000 meters with Tyler Spencer taking sixth at 30:03.29, Jacob Peterson finishing seventh with a time of 30:13.21, and Carson Day taking eighth with a personal best time of 30:16.85.

Colby Jenks took sixth in the 800 meters at 1:50.19, and Joe Corbridge was eighth at 1:50.29.

Malik Johnson scored in two events. He finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.71, and was seventh in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.77.

Jae Macias finished sixth in the 100 meters at 10.69, and Parker Sagers finished in a tie for sixth in the pole vault at 15-00.75.

The Wildcats were seventh in the 4x400-meter relay at 3:15.62 and took eighth in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 41.75.

"This championship was possibly the most competitive across all events in quite a while," Talley said. "There are some amazing track & field programs in our conference.  We saw some great performances throughout the four days. I was really proud of our seven All-Conference performances, and of the many gritty efforts I saw from the squad.

"Ethan's win in the Javelin was so impressive, particularly considering his backstory—to win a title after three Tommy John surgeries on his elbow was something special. Tyler Warnick was so solid for us, scoring 17 points across 5 events (including the Decathlon and both relays). We're so excited for his future and proud of his Freshman of the Year.

"Peter Visser capped off an absolutely incredible Big Sky career with two more All-Conference awards. He fights so hard on the track and is willing to push his limits over and over again.

"Overall, there were plenty of ups and downs and challenges to deal with throughout the meet. Our team handled themselves well and stayed composed. We fell a little short of our overall team goal. With such a tight race for second place as a team, we would have liked to take advantage of a few more opportunities to pick up points, but I am proud of this young team and where we're headed.

"We're very excited to move on to the NCAA first round with at least seven of the athletes, and as many as 10, depending on how the other conference championships unfold."
